I was caught by surprise this morning when upon opening the town newspaper, the Niverville Citizen, I was confronted by my own face and that of Stanley Hauerwas staring back up at me. The article fittingly appears directly above a piece on the “Bear-y Holiday Musical” staged by the local elementary school, in which my kids participated. You can read the full article here.
Whether the playful title of this blog post can be substantiated is another matter. Hauerwas, after being named “America’s best theologian” by Time magazine, has frequently reminded audiences that “best” is not a theological category. As for me, as far as I know I am the only “professional” theologian residing in the town of Niverville, but I would be among the first to tell you that the “professional” theologians are not always the best theologians!
